Investing in the Future
Since 1978, Scotiabank Centre has been the heartbeat of our downtown core. This year, we began laying the foundations for long-term strategic investments and fan experience upgrades that will take Scotiabank Centre into the future.
As a Halifax icon for almost half a century, Scotiabank Centre undertook critical upgrades throughout the last decade to ensure it has been able to maintain its position as the premier sports and entertainment venue in Atlantic Canada. Notably, in 2014, a series of priority capital renovations were announced that aligned with the announcement of the renewed naming rights partnership with Scotiabank. From 2023 to 2025, additional key investments were made to address critical end-of-life infrastructure. This included new environmentally sustainable ice plant and HVAC systems.
As Scotiabank Centre approaches its 50th anniversary, the long-term vision for the venue and its future have become emergent topics in the event sector and across the broader community. As the steward of Scotiabank Centre, Events East has a responsibility to ensure the venue is well-positioned to continue its strong performance while providing memorable events for citizens that drive downtown business activities, vibrancy, and economic impact for the next 25+ years. We will continue to collaborate closely with our partners as we envision the future of this iconic building.
“Appropriate and modern infrastructure is a critical facet of driving impact through events and supporting growth in Nova Scotia. We are excited for Scotiabank Centre to continue to play an important role in this growth by developing a strategic long-term vision.”
- Carrie Cussons, President & CEO, Scotiabank Centre.
Scotiabank Naming Rights Renewal
To build the foundation for future investments in Scotiabank Centre, we were proud to announce the renewal of our Naming Rights Agreement with Scotiabank in February. As our most valuable partnership, we negotiated with Scotiabank over a two-year period to renew the decade-long agreement that supported substantial upgrades to the facility from 2014 to 2024. Securing a renewed multi-year, multimillion dollar investment, we were proud to continue with Scotiabank as the exclusive naming rights partner of the venue and the official banking partner of the Halifax Mooseheads. The renewed agreement will support capital upgrades to enhance fan and client experiences and improve operations throughout the facility.
“Like us, Scotiabank views Scotiabank Centre as more than a facility. Like us, they view it as a source of celebration and pride in our community. This commitment from Scotiabank is an investment in enriching our community and city through the energy and passion created by events."
- Suzanne Fougere, Executive Vice-President, Scotiabank Centre.
In the Scotiabank Centre Lounge, members of our community, government, and industry gathered for this special announcement. We shared that our first 10-year partnership with Scotiabank supported ongoing improvements and investments. Over the last decade, the partnership has directly supported significant upgrades to the venue totaling more than $5M. Enhancements since then included 10,000 new seats, a new HD centre-hung scoreboard, new LED lighting, a basketball court, stairway railings, new roofing, renovated washrooms, a new ice slab, and the expansion of concessions. The renewal of our agreement ensures revenue generation and funds to continue strategic investments in our community. The renewal also included a brand refresh. We were excited to unveil a new logo, new exterior signage, and ongoing upgrades.
“Scotiabank has seen firsthand the value that partnerships like these bring to the communities in which we operate. We are excited to continue our partnership with Scotiabank Centre and Events East Group and support this central community space that has helped enrich Halifax and the entire region through sport, entertainment and the community programming that the Scotiabank Centre offers.”
- Nicola Ray Smith, Senior Vice-President, Atlantic Region, Scotiabank.
At the Naming Right Renewal, we reinforced the space that Scotiabank Centre holds in the hearts and minds of our community – from unforgettable wins and crushing defeats to first concerts and meaningful connections – we are proud to continue our relationship with Scotiabank. Together, we will continue building Scotiabank Centre’s legacy as an important driver of impact on the community in Halifax.
Enhancing the Fan Experience
This year, Scotiabank Centre completed several fan experience enhancement projects, including significant investments from the Halifax Mooseheads. We also began the installation of a new Public Address system, and new interior and exterior digital signage including a digital advertising ribbon inside the facility. We were thrilled to watch the Mooseheads unveil new fan experience features at the opening game of the 2024-2025 season, including the custom-designed and Canadian-made Moose Head installation and the dynamic Soloutube LED-light installations on protective glass. Fans young and old were surprised and excited by these improvements to the fan experience, and we continue to plan into 2026 and beyond.
